Hassle for USING EBT card at CVS pharmacies ?

I am a regular CVS customer in Cranston , Rhode Island : Why the HASSLE for USING my EBT card at the above CVS pharmacy yesterday ? I forgot to buy purified water at nearby Shore's Market. It is an easy routine to use my EBT card there when buying groceries. But yesterday I ran into a real hassle trying to use my EBT card at a nearby CVS. Without any explanation I was expected to type in my 16 digit EBT card number. This made no sense at all to me. Was the CVS management being pro-active in discouraging EBT food purchases ? I quickly decided to pay cash for my bottled water. Would I have a similar frustrating experience using my EBT card at a Walgreen's pharmacy ? I will report back to you later.
