Precisely because the political system of capitalism is rigged in favor of ruling class filtered candidates - invariably Democrats or Republicans - no real socialist will expect a socialist like Niles Niemuth to WIN a seat in Congress.
I don't know exactly how a democratic socialist government will become historic reality in the USA . In organic chemistry certain processes seem impossible until the right enzymes appear which trigger seething whirlpools of suddenly released hidden energy.
The ideas of socialism , a longing for human equality, are very old but they never die. They are the ferment of revolutionary social change. The ruling class is right about this : the ideas of socialism are contagious.
The ONLY weapon of an honest socialist surprisingly elected to public office : a magnified voice for TRUTH.
We can still learn a lot from the socialist movement in the United States that peaked about a hundred years ago with the last presidential campaign of Eugene V. Debs - who protested the First World War , the war to make the world safe for democracy .And went to jail for it .
Way back in his famous Canton Speech Debs explained how BOTH the Democrats and Republicans were tools of the ruling class, voting a bloody YES to American entry into the Great War- and justifying it with that Wilsonian blather that sounds so familiar here today in the year 2018.
Between wars they supported capitalist exploitation and oppression. Make the world safe for plutocracy-and WAR - today ?
