This conflict between Zionist Israel and the Palestinians seems more " eternal " than Jerusalem . No rational person would argue that Rome- the Eternal City-is not the capital of Italy. But that does not mean recognition of the Holy Father in Vatican City as the divine authority in Italy.
The uncorrupted socialism of 100 years always rejected bourgeois nationalism in favor of international working class solidarity.
There does seem to be a complete lack of social justice imagination on both sides of the Israel Palestine conflict. Why can't Israel devote itself to becoming a modern SECULAR state -with a revered religious tradition like the USA and most of Old Europe ?
Why can't the Palestinians envision a non-Islamic state in which Jews are welcome on equal terms with the Palestinians ?
