As a democratic socialist myself- and a registered Democrat in Rhode Island- I give critical support to the " socialist " Democrat Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont. But I think what America and the world really needs now is a much bolder, more militant voice of SOCIALISM , a voice that recognizes the reality of class struggle in the 21st century.
Militant socialists challenge the very legitimacy of " legitimate " wealth. They
recognize that natural ecology imposes limits on growth . So they do not promise MORE of anything to the addicts of capitalist consumerism. They just have a vision of a saner, more just, much more egalitarian world.
And militant socialists do not pander to the vanity of identity politics. A feminist woman president of the United States and a gay man as Secretary of Defense will do nothing to lessen the misery of capitalism for the masses.
Senator Bernie Sanders can learn a lot from that real socialist Eugene V. Debs. Read his famous Canton Speech. Debs said that the ONLY just war was CLASS WAR.
