As a long time independent democratic socialist ( and a sort of pre-Vatican II " Old Catholic " ) I was turned off by the obnoxious tone of the New Atheism from its peak more than ten years ago. The New Atheist Cult celebs were invariably underemployed, mediocre scientists or riffraff scholars on the fringe of Academia. They never applied their oh-so-formidable LOGIC & REASON to the CLASS society around them , to CAPITALISM, AMERICAN IMPERIALISM , and ISRAELI ZIONISM . Most of them ( just read their books ) are shills for all three ! The New Atheist Cult evangelist seemed to forget that the biggest mistake of the old Soviet Union was not SOCIALISM. It was making itself a dreary " officially atheist " tyranny. Many years later there is more than a whiff of police state STALINISM about the New Atheist movement. And as individuals they are shaped by our capitalist " Culture of Narcissism ". The New Atheist Cult evangelists are still ubiquitous on YouTube. Are they the last to get the message that THEIR movement has faded ? They leave their followers with nothing but an empty , neurotic hatred for God and Faith. The Russian writer Dostoevsky would say that this was the first step of " The Possessed " toward nihilism . And it does seem that ALL so called "Marxist vanguard " parties and organizations today are going nowhere doing the same thing , stagnant and stultified for more than a century since the heady days of the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution in Russia ( which alas culminated in the long nightmare of Stalinism ) . Not a few intellectual Jews were attracted to the " Revolution in Russia " . I wonder if they hated God , religion and Faith more than they loved the proletariat ? But THE DREAM so quickly spoiled ! Today the mass of intellectual Jews gravitate toward equally mad Zionism .
