Inspired from youth by Albert Camus' sense of the Absurd, I try to be a voice for REASON in the growing darkness and moral insanity of global capitalism .

"Karl Marx Was Right" Whatever " socialism " in the future will not be a " dictatorship of the proletariat "
As a longtime independent democratic socialist ( and a shameless pre-Vatican II Catholic ) I think Karl Marx's reasoning about the nature of CAPITALISM as an economic system was indeed very rational , penetrating and scientific. The socialist movement in his time came close to Catholic social philosophy. But many years after the Communist Manifesto was published in 1848 it does seem that Marx was less than scientific in his proletarian politics. In general, the categorical PROLE comes closer to Orwell's proles in " 1984 " and American socialist writer Jack London's " People of the Abyss " proles. Rather than be the " gravediggers of capitalism " this huge part of the more respectable WORKING CLASS these proles -drunken, dope addicted, jobless , homeless , sexually debauched, crime prone, derelict - are very much their own grave diggers . Did Marx perhaps underestimate how big the " lumpen-proletariat " would get in advanced capitalist societies ?
The global plutocracy can and will be replaced by a NEW CLASS but it will not resemble the " dictatorship of the proletariat ".
There are a few surviving Marxist vanguard " parties in the world . Most of them have degenerated into bizarre sects and personality cults not unlike the the " Church of Scientology ". Ironically they PREACH the dictatorship of the proletariat but their own organization is a TOP DOWN " dictatorship " over the rank and file. There is nothing here resembling " democratic centralism ". And DISSENT will most often get you expelled. If by some amazing twist of HISTORY they seize political power anywhere on the planet, their regime will quickly show its STALINIST stripes.
I find it hard to believe that cold fish Marxists showing implacable hostility to religion, to FAITH can ever win over the hearts and minds of the masses.
For the present in our times the " People of the Abyss " need a Mother Teresa more than they need Karl Marx and " CLASS STRUGGLE " politics.
The future ruling class that replaces plutocracy will probably come from a highly educated, self-confident , SOBER salaried class -not from so called capitalist wage slaves.
How " democratic " THEY will be is problematic. At least this is preferable to George Orwell's nightmare vision in " 1984 " : " If you want a picture of the future , imagine a boot stamping on a human face forever " .
