Remembering Broad St. School -soon to close- in Providence, Rhode Island

I was an elementary school student at this " Alan Shawn Feinstein " school 1955-1960. Back then it was called BROAD ST. SCHOOL. The rather vain philanthropist Alan Shawn Feinstein has his name on every other school building in Providence. But he proves useless to save old Broad St. School . Our home in Washington Park , 315 California Ave., was right near the massive school building which seemed that it could last as long as any structure in Ancient Rome. An especially exciting time for me at Broad St. School was October 1957 when the Russian space satellite Sputnik went up. It inspired serious math & science instruction. Now at age 76 the world I grew up in is very much GONE WITH THE WIND . Show less
