Too many OBVIOUSLY mentally ill people in this society are " falling through the cracks " of a very dysfunctional mental health care system. Decades ago the then much applauded DE-INSTITUTIONALIZATION of the mentally ill was an unrecognized crime against humanity . Whole books have been written on this topic . Today what psychiatrist will be willing even to LISTEN to disturbed souls on the brink of a crackup ? Is there anti-psychotic medicine for a SICK SOCIETY ? And the rare psychiatrist who will listen to a deranged homeless person , for example : will he talk to the patient as a pillar of the American Way of Life ? Can you preach the AMAZING POWER OF POSITIVE THINKING to the individual ruined by the capitalist rat race struggle for existence ? What can be done for the disturbed individual before his or her mental and physical health is destroyed ? Have professional psychiatrists preach the GOSPEL OF CONFORMITY to indigent patients ? ( or these they refuse to see ? ). To what degree does professional psychiatry just prop up an insane capitalist system ?
