Very much ON THE LEFT myself I just cannot think that last January 6, 2021 was a serious " fascist coup attempt ". It seemed liked a perfectly LEGITIMATE mass protest demonstration fired by justified cynicism about " OUR democracy " . A wild eyed fringe group - familiar to anybody who protested the Vietnam War in the late 60s- wanted to storm the Congress as once those anti-war protesters wanted -even planned - to storm the Pentagon. In truth, only a very organized -very DEMOCRATIC - political movement can even begin to restore whatever is left of " OUR democracy ". For four long years the " liberal " Democrats really did nothing but protest a LEGITIMATE ( by American Constitution standards ) Donald Trump presidency . Even smearing President Trump as a treacherous agent of Vladimir Putin in Russia! The mainstream news media promoted this BIG LIE. And there was no evidence in his long very public record in business enterprise or entertainment of being a white supremacist , a homophobe , an anti-Semite. As a democratic socialist I saw no morality in lying about him. He was one of many very influential PLUTOCRATS in the USA. That was bad enough. But even plutocrats are not necessarily strangers to ordinary human decency.
With their vicious identity politics and their silly CRITICAL RACE THEORY and their HATE RUSSIA, New McCarthyism the " liberal " Democrats are spreading more HATE than Donald Trump or conservative Republicans -who seem to show more respect for the FREE SPEECH , FREE THOUGHT tradition of Western Civilization.
