With or without Bernie Sanders , Elizabeth Warren , and AOC , the functioning core of the Democratic Party will never be " the party of Karl Marx ". Indeed as Erich Fromm pointed out long ago in his classic " The Sane Society " even most sectarian Marxist- Leninist parties have ceased to be true to the fundamental ideas of Karl Marx. They have a dreary history of degenerating into weird personality cults led by some permanent GREAT LEADER with his relatively few followers much like those " Clears " in the daffy Church of Scientology . Who needs this ? The Democratic Party is ironically becoming more and more STALINIZED with its alarming contempt for the FREE SPEECH , FREE THOUGHT tradition of Western Civilization. The biggest mistake that " communist " Russia made soon after the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution was to make THEIR state " officially atheist ". True , today the " progressive " Democrats wage war on religious freedom . THEIR equality society would make millions of faithful Catholics and Protestants marginalized , second class citizens . Imagine " OUR democracy " marginalizing the majority !
