THE NEWS today is that Cranston Mayor Ken Hopkins plans to cut " Senior Services " ! As a long time independent democratic socialist I must ask sardonically : " Is there a poverty crisis among the capitalist economic elite in Cranston ? Must the Cranston middle class in free fall also sacrifice their modest standard of comfort for the war for " Greater Israel " in the Middle East ? The Mayor's brilliant solution is to take away from the most have- not sector of the population : senior citizens living on fixed income who depend on already not overgenerous " Senior Services " .
