I see a pattern here. Is there any career or profession in CAPITALIST America that does not mass produce sad , burnt out, disillusioned by early middle age, individuals? Teachers, doctors, nurses, lawyers, scientists, clergymen, police , military. All have tales of work place woe to tell. We take the division of labor in capitalist society as axiomatic. We ask a five year old: " What do you want to be when you grow up?" How does individual free will guarantee that some guy will pick up your garbage on the same week day? Or that my RIPTA bus will always meet me more or less at the same time on the same days? That some dentists will be there to treat your tooth ache? That some plumber on duty will unclog your sink or toilet? That some fire men will always arrive to put out your house fire? They all decided as kids:" What do I want to be when I grow up?"?
