Way back in the time of Moses there were perceived blatant contradictions in PRIVATE PROPERTY rights .

[The Ten Commandments protect private property rights… even coveting another’s property is sinful, so what are you talking about? As for Stalin, his atheism didn’t make him a violent authoritarian, plenty of those existed before him, he just didn’t use god as his excuse like the czars, kings and princes that came before him.]
Even way back in the time of Moses there were blatant contradictions in PRIVATE PROPERTY rights. Clearly they were not meant to completely ruin and subjugate the poor. Not a few Old Testament prophets, like Amos, speak out against neglect and abuse of the poor. And way back then -long before the capitalist " Industrial Revolution " PRIVATE PROPERTY could be associated with the " fruit of one's own labor " . In this century can the PRIVATE PROPERTY of Donald Trump . Bill Gates, Elon Musk , the parade of the American plutocracy, be rationally connected to the fruit of THEIR labor ?
In every day life I , a longtime independent democratic socialist , can respect the PRIVATE PROPERTY of even very rich people. While they might have a dubious claim to ownership ( based on the exploitation of the working class ) I myself have no claim on THEIR wealth . The just division of wealth is a SOCIAL question and can only be decided collectively ( why does " collectivism " sound so odious to our ruling class ? ) .
Without any need for CLASS WAR at all the maldistribution of WEALTH can be corrected in " OUR democracy " by an American Labor Party-like the British Labor Party but less stuffy and compromised . The members of the plutocracy are not punished and do not suffer at all . They must now live on LESS but still EQUAL to all other citizens. Their outstandig talent can be employed in the MANAGEMENT of socialized wealth .
AI OVERVIEW :
[ " Old Testament prophet Amos condemned the wealthy for trampling, oppressing, and exploiting the poor through unjust economic practices, like cheating in business and court, taking their land, and ignoring their needs, warning of severe judgment, while demanding that justice and righteousness—specifically care for the vulnerable—run like a mighty stream, not just empty religious rituals. He highlighted the hypocrisy of those who sought riches by ruining the needy and turning justice into something cheap, even selling the poor for mere sandals " ]
AI OVERVIEW on Engels perspective on religious morality and " The Ten Commandments " :
[ In Anti-Dühring, Friedrich Engels argued that the Ten Commandments, along with other "generally valid moral principles," are not eternal, immutable ethical laws. Instead, he saw them as the codification of practical rules necessary for social cooperation at a particular historical stage of development.
Key points from Engels' perspective:
Historical Materialism: Engels applied his theory of historical materialism to morality, asserting that all systems of ethics are a product of the material and economic conditions of the society that produces them.
Social Necessity: The commandments (e.g., "Thou shalt not steal" or "Thou shalt not kill") represent basic rules that allow for normal cooperation between individuals in a society, as no society can function if its members regularly kill or steal from each other.
Class Morality: He argued that every society divided into classes has a distinct class morality. The dominant morality (e.g., feudal, bourgeois) serves the interests of the ruling class. A truly human morality that stands above class antagonisms can only become possible in a future communist society where class divisions have been overcome.
Rejection of Eternal Dogma: Engels explicitly rejected any attempt to impose any moral dogma as an "eternal, ultimate, and for ever immutable ethical law".
Thus, Engels did not view the Ten Commandments as divinely ordained or inherently eternal truths, but rather as historically specific social rules.
