There is a report of the legendary American socialist leader Eugene V. Debs meeting ( by invitation ) in the White House in 1921 with hapless American president Warren G. Harding . I suspect that Trump was less impressed with Mamdani than Harding was with Debs. Debs had just been released from prison for opposing the First World War. In his public speeches he denounced the American TWO PARTY SYSTEM the same in 2025 as it was in 1921. I wish the mayor-elect of New York City the best and good luck. But Mr. Mamdani , you are no Eugene V. Debs. You are hardly yet a " socialist " Democrat Bernie Sanders. But here there is great hope for you ( from the enigmatic Democratic Socialists ? ) .
