Even the better Marxist socialist political organizations alienate themselves from the masses by being openly hostile to religion , especially Catholicism . Perhaps the biggest mistake of the collapsed Soviet Union was to declare itself officially ATHEIST from the very beginning of the world shaking Bolshevik Revolution of 1917 .
