There are plenty of fairly well preserved Egyptian mummies, already
objects of medical research . Many of these mummies were the most
exalted rulers of their day , a few vainglorious conquerors .And many
of them reproduced royally; one pharaoh, I read, fathered nearly 100
children.
I wonder if modern " miracle " DNA testing of the present Egyptian
population - especially the people whose features recall the ancient
Egyptian as pictured on those colossal buildings near the Valley of
the Dead - can establish definite kinship with old dynasties.
I don't know what good would come from such an ambitious
genealogical project : Could some obscure Egyptian citizen claim
King Tut's wealth ? Perhaps there would be a new version of " The Mummy's
Curse " !
Now if some of those mummies can be cloned ?
