Critical support for the Hollywood writers strike

As a longtime independent democratic socialist I ,of course , support this Hollywood movie writers strike. Nevertheless the scripts they write invariably reflect the VALUES and world view of their capitalist owners. Find a movie or TV show implicitly critical the capitalist system , critical of so many stupid and endless Pentagon wars ? Long ago ruthless capitalism reduced " white collar intellectuals " to a proletarianized drudge class. The proletarianized , petty bourgeois at heart , " professional " " creative " writers are never free to express their real thoughts and feelings about LIFE in " OUR democracy ". Perhaps ACLU will defend their right to be " prostitute " artists in the service of the American plutocracy . As Karl Marx said in a pithy observation : " the ruling ideas are the ideas of the ruling class ". If you really grasp this truth, even YOU can write columns or editorials for the New York Times ( after your Hollywood " success" ) . And have dinner with Chuck Todd or Oprah . Having no taste for brainwashing vacuity I never watch regular TV and rarely visit a movie theater no matter how tempting the popcorn. I did appreciate ( way back in 1988 ? ) the movie about the pathetically paralyzed Vietnam veteran, Ron Kovic, in " Born on the Fourth of July ". But not the SELL OUT ending : where Ron shows up triumphant ( ? ) at the Democratic National Convention . In capitalist America the Orwellian resembling " proles " sell their bodies ( " Sixteen tons and what do you get - another day older and deeper in debt " ) . But the educated writers and artists sell their souls . For them a darker damnation . But good luck anyway to all the SELL OUT, Hollywood talent now on strike for THE GOOD LIFE salary . But can a self-destroyed soul ever write the great American novel ? Not for nothing the author of " An American Tragedy " , Theodore Dreiser ended up as a card carrying communist. And the author of " The Great Gatsby " , F. Scott Fitzgerald , who did write for Hollywood , died young at age 40 , a burnt out " old " drunk.
