Thank ancient Catholicism for preserving some quaint kindness in a dark " Losing Faith in Faith" world
I found the Catholic theme religious medal at the bottom of my book bag. Where did that come from ? I wondered . My sister Adrienne takes me grocery shopping on Monday. I told her about the Holy Mother medal I found in my blue book bag. Adrienne , always very quietly the Old Catholic , told me that she put it there as extra " protection " on these cold winter days . I thanked her for the kind THOUGHT and now have the medal on my key chain.
How would a typical New Atheist react to being openly or secretly presented with a Catholic " superstition " medal ? You can be sure the " village atheist " would not show a hint of a little something called " emotional intelligence ".
I told my dear sister Adrienne that someone placed a Saint Christopher medal in a pocket of famous aviator Charles Lindbergh before he took off on his historic flight from New York to Paris in 1927.
Well maybe it just HELPED young heroic ALL AMERICAN Lindbergh achieve that feat ! " Lucky Lindy " was the darling of the news media until he opposed American involvement in World War II ( anti-Semitism here ? ) .
NOTE :
ca. 1927
Description
[ "This Saint Christopher medal was found by Missouri Historical Society staff prior to 1935 in the pocket of Charles A. Lindbergh's flight suit (1928-083-0001) that he wore during his transatlantic flight in the "Spirit of St. Louis" on May 20-21, 1927. The medal shows Saint Christopher carrying the infant Jesus through a river, and it has "CONFRERIE / ST CHRISTOPHE / DE / CHATEAUROUX / - INDRE -" printed on it. This is likely the medal that Lindbergh found in his pocket while reaching for a handkerchief as he neared the coast of Ireland. He did not know who placed it there, but Lindbergh biographer Scott Berg discovered that a school teacher from Glen Cove, New York, slipped it into his pocket before the flight. Lindbergh loaned the flight suit, which presumably contained the Saint Christopher Medal, to the Missouri Historical Society in 1928, and he gave it to the Society in 1933. " ]
