CVS CEO Helena Foulkes not responsible for the opioid epidemic

As a long time independent democratic socialist I do not scrutinize Democrat or Republican candidates for evidence of a sterling character. Reaching out to THE PEOPLE, in general, demands social skills consistent with the Baltimore Catechism and the Boy Scout Handbook. But for democratic socialists the flaw is SYSTEMIC. The capitalist economic system creates CLASS divisions that are not resolved by any well meaning politician's personality traits. The whole drug industry should be socially owned and controlled- just as should the gun manufacturing industries. FOR PROFIT companies are nowhere nowadays in the interests of the common people. I do not think it is very rational to blame CEO Helena Buonanno Foulkes for an epidemic of opioid addiction and deaths. I think the national tragedy is connected to the misguided -now insanely institutionalized - WAR ON DRUGS. PAIN killers were a great invention of medical science. They can be distributed with WARNING just as alcohol and cigarettes. The present HYSTERIA over opioids is making it difficult for 80-90 year old individuals with arthritis ( for example ) to get simple RELIEF -so timid and reluctant are primary care physicians to prescribe pain medicine. No, TYLENOL won't do ! The 60s " hippie -beatnik " in me says to demand the abolition of PRESCRIPTION for mood altering or pain killing drugs. I read that LSD can help cure alcoholism . Dr. Timothy Leary did get some things right. CVS can do more good than harm with effective pain pills !
