I will tell you an odd story about the state of " freedom of speech " even on the Left. A few years ago Chris Hedges had an interesting and instructive interview with the very well informed " Trotskyist " leader of the Socialist Equality Party , David North , on his World Socialist Web Site. There is decades long sectarian hostility between the completely degenerated Socialist Workers Party , led forever by decrepit Jack Barnes , and David North's Socialist Equality Party( perceived as a personality cult by former party members and many others on the Left ) . The history of this animosity is presently being openly discussed in a series of articles on the WSWS. I find it very interesting and share the series on my blog . The other day I puckishly typed in the name " David North " - SEARCH- at The Militant " on-line . Immediately a WARNING note went out . Somehow I had violated the SWP security ! I published this Orwellian WARNING on my blog .
Sad to say , a while back I wanted to comment on an article ( I completely agreed with ) protesting censorship in the United States on David North 's World Socialist Website. But immediately this NOTICE IN RED popped up : that I was banned on the World Socialist Web Site. Some years ago, I suspect , I was fingered as a " resident Catholic , fascist, anti-Semite " !
Well anyway, my good judgment many years ago told me to remain a very INDEPENDENT democratic socialist.
