Just Latinos -or " Invasion of Body Snatchers " ?

I have been a critic of the more mindless forms of political correctness

    but at least political correctness -outside the universities ! - seems

    to be rather good natured and just wants us to be nicer to one another,

    whatever our racial or cultural differences.

                But how nasty the opposite of political correctness can be

    I witnessed listening to Talk Radio. The hot topic : bilingual ballots,

    in Spanish and English. Most of the callers to our low brow cheer leader

    -known as THE INDEPENDENT MAN - were furious over this blatant subversion

    of the American Way.

               The Spanish speaking CITIZENS were spoken of with such

    paranoid hostility, such contempt that I was reminded of the 1950s

    science fiction film : " The Invasion of the Body Snatchers ".

               Way back in my high school days I was advised to study

    at least one foreign language - and told that Spanish was the easiest

    language for us " native Americans " to learn.

            What  I learned from my two years of Spanish language study

    at the Community College of Rhode Island was this : There is nothing

    ALIEN about the people of Mexico, Central and South America. Their

    culture was predominantly Western Civilization, their religion- Roman

    Catholicism.

             In many ways the Spanish speaking immigrants are a lot like

    the older generation of Italian immigrants.

                 Both Spanish and Italian are derived from ancient Latin

    -from which come about 70% of our English vocabulary.

                For the intellectually curious : the everyday words of

    Spanish are often connected etymologically to our more sophisticated

    vocabulary.

                   One language learning experience : the feeling that

    PEOPLE are alike everywhere !

               A bilingual ballot is just cultural courtesy - not the end

    of life as we know it.

                 Find a more serious problem to lose sleep over !

Karl Marx laughs at Zionism !

If Karl Marx were alive today, he might take a keen interest

    in the CLASS STRUCTURE of modern Israel. It  would indeed seem to the

    diehard communist internationalist - " workers of the world unite! " -

    that in Israel - forget about the Palestinians for a minute - some Jews

    are more equal than other Jews.

                 I read on the front page today : " secular residents protest

    ... military service exemptions for Orthodox Jews who devote themselves

    full time to study Jewish law . "

                I suspect that there are not a few  Jewish atheists even in

    Israel who would rather study physics full time than theological rubbish.

     Even quite " patriotic "  Jews !

                    Karl Marx would laugh at this irony : working class liberal

    minded Jews dying to make Israel safe for the most fanatical Orthodox

    Jews - too  PIOUS and scholarly to fight and die for their country.

                Imagine an atheistic Jewish soldier fighting for something

    he does not even believe in: " The Promised Land " !

                  Working class Jews not having a direct connection to the

    Almighty might find oppressed Palestinians to be their true brothers !

                     Thank God for old fashioned Jewish Communists - like

    Karl Marx.

France insults its Revolution !

Every  political leader in the world might be a target for

    assassination. The conservative phony Jacques Chirac is over-reacting

    to the recent attempt on his life that may not even have been a conspiracy.

              Headline : " France to outlaw radical right ". It is one thing

    to arrest and punish criminal  terrorists. It is quite another thing - a

    mockery of the great French Revolution- to outlaw minor, unpopular political

    parties - perhaps reflecting the views of a significant number of French

    citizens that unchecked immigration is ruining their country.

                  When I  watch " old " French films - from the 50s and 60s-

    the Bridget Bardot era - I can empathize with nostalgia for a cleaner,

    brighter, saner, safer, happier, more sensuously enjoyable world.

                   You can't outlaw IDEAS - even nasty, reactionary ones.

             Imagine the likes of Chirac  deciding even for the eternally

    rebellious French Left the boundaries of political correctness.

            When Lee Harvey Oswald was assassinated here nobody thought

    about outlawing the Fair Play For Cuba  Committee.

                  Let the ghosts of the Convention return to haunt modern

    France.  " Do not betray us ! " they shout from the grave.

Child prostitutes in downtown Providence ?

My friend " Emo " - being homeless - is very familiar with

    the night scene in downtown Providence. He is very suspicious that he

    witnessed a  young " blond blue-eyed " boys prostitute ring operating

    boldly out of the Holiday Inn in downtown Providence, R.I. The time

    of this was around midnight, July 26.

              The group of " come hither " cuties were on the side of the

    hotel facing the Civic Center.

              " These kids should be home in bed or under visible adult

    supervision ", Emo commented.

              A little cynical I thought : " A police sting operation " ?

           Trying to catch some vulnerable candidates for high office in

    the Ocean State ?

                " Emo " wanted to call the police. Next time he will.

        I told Emo I will e-mail the Projo about this local  scandal.

           Mark Patinkin had a write up on poor homeless and brilliant

    Emo the Cat Man  - who lost his house to City Hall a while back.

            Keep his name out of it until I talk to him again.

Death penalty drooling on Talk Radio

No surprise here. Supporters of the death penalty - egged on

    by radio talk show lowbrows like our " independent man " -have been

    re-energized by the horrible murder of " socialite " Alexandra  Zapp

    by psychopath Burger King cook Leahy.  Alexandra was a truly beautiful

    person and Leahy a dangerous creep before the cold blooded murder.

               But details of ANY murder hardly add  cogency to the pro-

    death penalty argument - which is in substance little more than the

    emotional need for revenge. I note that CLASS PREJUDICE plays a role

    in reaction to the socialite's murder: If she were a cleaning lady from

    Puerto Rico, would the reaction had been as emotional ?

               If she had been a very ordinary working class woman, would

    we have heard shameless talk  from LAWYERS about twisting the state

    law to get the monster Leahy a death sentence ?

              As usual there is no thought given to possible  UNTREATED

    mental illness here. For fans of the electric chair, the root of evil

    is just EVIL - no such thing as a wrongly wired brain !

              The family of Alexandra Zapp hopes that her wonderful life

    and tragic death will serve some purpose : Let it not be greater support

    for the death penalty !

Israel like England in World War II ?

No decent person should applaud the reckless violence

    of Israel, the Palestinians - who are breeding too many " Apt Pupils " ,

    or the United States in its own holy war against terrorism.

               I am certain most Jews feel as  depressed as many Americans

    do about innocent life lost in Afghanistan.

                  Whatever happened to the last great hope of humanity - the

    United Nations ?

                 But also a bit of history : after it became clear that Hitler

    had no regard for  British civilians, was it criminal for Winston Churchill-

    " The Lion " - to approve massive air raids on German cities despite

    awesome civilian casualties ?

                   My sympathy for Israel is still extremely limited. It has

    a right to protect itself. At its best it represents the greatness of

    Western Civilization - in contrast to savage Islamic " culture " : how

    many heads did you cut off this week, you keepers of the faith ?

                  But an arrogant Israel will be humbled, to be sure !

Bombarded by obnoxious commercials !

 TV and radio commercials are more frequent and more

    offensive - truly the product of ugly souls ! - than ever before.

    Even the so called news is nothing but commercials interrupted by

    incoherent bits of news - often about the problems of vapid celebrities.

                 I believe that these relentless commercials - always

    suggesting that true happiness is just one shopping spree away- are

    as insidious as the  ideological brainwashing seen in cult movie

    " The Manchurian Candidate ".

             They tell even the poorest of the poor - who can still watch

    TV - that they should have this and have that. They are creating

    monsters of frustration.

                I seriously question the intelligence of any person

    who can listen to TV or radio for more than an hour a day - with

    the exception of NPR and  TV stations like 36 - doomed to neglect

    by philistine ignorance.

               Often I feel like the character in the Twilight Zone

    story " Walking Distance " : If only he could get back to saner

    times !

                My 80 year old mother says that TV was better when

    there were only three channels and it was all in black and white.

                Come to think of it, what's so bad about a black and

    white view of the world ?  DIVERSITY has become a modern Tower of

    Babel !

                Even the newspapers are threadbare.  And morally confused:

    A full page  ad seducing kids to smoke; on the next page an indignant

    editorial condemning  the cigarette industry.

               A just Allah is  hurling that asteroid

      toward the earth !

JJ Marra -no Billy Bigelow ( " Carousel " )

I  was glad to read that pretty ,young, blonde, blue eyed

    -just turned 18 -  Faith Marie Ouellette - is back  safe and sound

    from her mysterious " adventure " with the 56 year old  traveling

    carnival worker John " JJ " Marra. While Faith was reported " missing ",

    I had scary images out of a Ray Bradbury story in my head : " Dark Ferris ".

              Some friend of Faith thought " JJ " was  a little sinister

    looking with his toothless, middle aged smile . Another " Mack the Knife " ?

              In the Ray Bradbury nightmare carnival the villain becomes

    young again merely by riding backwards on  a strange ferris wheel.

                Thinks  " JJ "  : " Now I'll have my way with her ! "

            But the way the actual news story ended, I am thinking of

    a bizarre version of the Rodgers & Hammerstein musical " Carousel ".

            But  - nice guy that you still might be , you are no Billy

    Bigelow, Mr. JJ Marra ! .

              From the play : " The fust time he kissed me the whiff of

    his clo'es knocked me flat on the floor of the room. But now that I

    love him , my heart's in my nose, and fish is my fav'rit perfume "

                  At 18 LOVE can be blind. But I'm not suggesting at all

    what REALLY happened between Faith and " JJ " .

Gay marriage as a " human right " ? ( Brodhead letter )

Supporting gay marriage, James Brodhead of Little Compton, R.I.

    writes in a letter to the Boston Globe (July 20 ) : " ...human rights

    are not subject to plebiscite ".  That gay marriage is a  HUMAN RIGHT is

    a rather recent discovery of the era of political correctness.

                  The true nature of  BOURGEOIS MARRIAGE - recognized by

    the state - is revealed in the divorce court: it is clearly - as those

    dear old socialist feminist battle axes discovered - an oppressive, suffocating,

    miserable ECONOMIC institution -serving PRIVATE PROPERTY and capitalism .

                 I have no problem with homosexuality. I always admired the

    REBEL in the gay person. In loving concern, I say : " Don't do it ! "

                  Don't ever become another gay person's " ball and chain " !

              In the 60s the idea caught on that you can't OWN anybody - not

    even a lover.   I say to my gay friends : " Stay unrespectable - and

    HAPPY ! "

            But if you really want to marry, I won't be a George Wallace

    blocking you in the doorway of the Church or City Hall.

                What a fortune for lawyers - this gay marriage business !

              Who got the house ? Who got the dog  ?

Assumption 1 of the New Capitalism

It had seemed to me years ago that there was a crisis in

    mental health care in Rhode Island. Now our governor - more of a moral

    zombie than Providence Mayor Cianci - tells us that about 3 million

    dollars will be cut from  state budget  for the mentally ill, the

    truly helpless and hopeless -and often homeless - individuals who

    were supposed to have benefited from deinstitutionalization.

               Since the beginning of the Reagan era , the New Capitalism -

    really just the old robber baron capitalism - rejected with great

    arrogance and hubris ( always before the fall ! ) - the idea that

    our " democratic " government had any constitutional obligation to

    help the helpless - even in  prosperous times !

                Perhaps the next Roosevelt - " THAT MAN " - will be more

    of a traitor to his class than Franklin D. ever was. He or she will

    really deal with an iron fist with ruthless, pitiless, capitalist

    greed.  Enron is no aberration - that mendacious avarice is the

    soul of  THE SYSTEM .

                I see a lot less flags on cars lately. I suspect ordinary

    people are more worried about corporate terrorism. And listen, George

    W. Bush : Forget about invading Iraq ! You are indeed a one term

    president.

               Bush to the American people in 2004 : " Are you better off

    than you were four years ago ?...  are you safer from terrorism than

    you were four years ago ? "

                Ralph Nader will have the last laugh on both the Republicans

    and the Democrats - those phony friends of working people and the poor !

                Eugene V. Debs got it right a long time ago .

Did the Big Bang create Paul J. Leahy ?

As bloody and horrible a murder story as can be found in any

    film noir or 1950s pulp fiction detective story : " The trooper who

    arrests the  suspected killer of a 30 year old Newport woman wishes he

    had arrived sooner " -   where the Burger King employee, Paul J. Leahy,

    was washing the blood of  Alexandra Zapp off his hands .

               One with an an interest in moral philosophy never runs out

    of examples of EVIL to reflect on. " I lost it " , the killer said.

    ( front page, Providence Journal, July 19 ).

                Let me briefly try to connect the latest findings in cosmology

    with the everyday evil of this world: It seems that an imbalance in the

    VOID, little bubbles  in nothingness suddenly inflated and THAT gave us

    the violent beginning of the universe - The Big Bang. And the universe

    has been unbalanced in  favor of violent chaos ever since. EVIL was

    there from the very beginning: the destructive forces overwhelming the

    creative forces. Entropy - the power of disorder - always triumphant in

    the end.

             For millions of years the Lovecraftian gods - the Old Ones -

    amused themselves hurling asteroids at larger cosmic bodies we call

    planets. A greater thrill was seeing stars blow up and galaxies collide.

              Closer to home the local gods amused themselves for a 100 million

    years just watching the violent daily battles of the nightmarish dinosaurs.

              Then they made MAN in their own image. While the individual of

    the species can do very little good in his  short life, he can do a lot

    of EVIL.  A late example : It took years to build the World Trade Center

    but only minutes for maniacs -inspired by the local god Allah - to destroy

    it.

               It took centuries for the Jews to become a population of

    millions. But the German god Woden  only needed a few more years to

    complete the Holocaust. The " imbalance " in the universe sometimes

    works against the cosmic imps of the perverse: sometimes GOOD wins

    the day. But never forget that EVIL began with the very beginning of

    TIME. And it will be with us " until the end of TIME ".

                 And just a bit of medical truth : every cell in your

    body HATES the whole  YOU - and is trying every minute of its existence

    to become CANCER !

                Does this absurd cogitation explain the daily headlines ?

Cianci , corruption, and class rule

For all his pompous grandeur, the federal judge reaffirming

    the " corruption " verdict of Providence Mayor, Vincent " Buddy " Cianci,

    has a very narrow view of political corruption. When you consider that

    many books - like " The For Sale Congress " - can be found on the shelves

    of our public libraries , books exposing the deep rooted corruption of

    the " democratic " process in America - and perhaps a FOR SALE Supreme

    Court appointed a FOR SALE George W. Bush president of the United States-

    a federal judge sniffing out small time corruption in Providence , Rhode

    Island is himself guilty of professional cretinism - an inability to see

    the big picture of plutocratic rule of our society.

               Did any federal judge ever take two weeks to reflect on the

    fundamental injustices of our society ? A guy like Ralph Nader has spent

    his whole adult life reflecting on them and FIGHTING them. But his very

    name now is a dirty word among " uncorrupt " Democrats who would never

    take a bribe but also would never question the legitimacy of class rule, of

    the everyday capitalism that timid thinkers  take for granted.

               All the great legal minds  of the United States -gathered

    together in one hall - could not agree on the legality of a national

    health care plan - or ever find poverty and homelessness simply

    UNACCEPTABLE !

                   They could not even agree to keep  BIG MONEY from

    corrupting our democracy.

            They would have us believe that the only problem is the rotten

    corrupt INDIVIDUAL. The SYSTEM is divine ! And that is why things never

    really change.

               I hope Mayor Cianci is given the leniency his petty sins

    deserve !

PROJO belo standards !

I already have heard this opinion expressed by numerous

    readers of the Providence Journal -including former employees:

    Your newspaper -once representing classic New England  CULTURE -

    has gone to hell under the ownership and mismanagement of the

    Belo Corporation. This business group  in an eerie way reminds

    me of the mental atmosphere in Dallas ,Texas on November 22,1963.

               Like old Lyndon Johnson, it  is crude, rude, uncouth,

    arrogant, ignorant, and as stupid as Texas is big ! And as dangerous

    and ruthless as the cloddish, accidental president.

                I hope the New York Times or the Boston Herald buys

    the Providence Journal. Belo is like Enron - in for a big fall, too

    much hubris.

               Another letter can be devoted to details of the Projo's

    deterioration. Let me say for now that even your LOCAL news coverage

    is a flop. Rhode Island is small enough. Yet the reader might believe

    that for residents of Providence, Cranston and Warwick are almost

    foreign countries!

          And I have caught news stories on local TV that the Providence

    Journal just fails to report about.

             If the Boston Herald published your obituaries, it might

    drive you out  of business. Yes, obituaries and some local coverage

    by half-alert reporters.

           Future headline : PROVIDENCE JOURNAL SOLD ! EMPLOYEES ELATED !

                   Just keep your columnists and editorial writers. They

    just deserve better. Your BOSS is a Texas jerk !

More vicious dog incidents in R.I.

             TV news just reported two more vicious pit bull attacks in

    the Providence area. Nothing in the PROJO about it !

                But in today's West Bay ( July 16 , page C6 ) I read :

    " Girl bitten by dog; mother wants it declared vicious ".

            " This dog literally mauled my daughter ", says Carrie Briggs.

            Will she get justice ? Well, read my letter to West Bay ( March 15,

    " Vicious Dogs Rule " ).  If the owner of the dog is connected to the

    police department  - and the German shepherd that mauled the little girl

    is owned by a  Coventry police officer, Michael Flanagan - expect to be

    ignored !

               The Cranston Police Dept. has not made the slightest effort

    to track down the owner of the vicious Rottweiler that chased me into

    Reservoir  Ave. just before noon at the corner of  Speck Ave. and

    Reservoir Ave on Tuesday , January 29.  Right near  an apartment complex

    at 501 Reservoir that often makes the Police Log.

              I asked Mayor O'Leary in my published letter to help me trace

    the 911 call. But Mr. Municipal Junk Bond has bigger problems to deal

    with in his rapidly decaying city - once a nice place to live !

                  Yes, indeed the whole state is going to the dogs !

Can pedophile Porter free himself ?

 I read in this morning's newspaper that ex-priest child

    molester, James R. Porter - scheduled to be released from prison in

    about a year and a half - wants JUST ONE MORE CHANCE ( Projo, page A2,

    July 15 )  .

                The reader may quickly wonder if he means one more chance

    to molest a child before he meets his Maker!  Nevertheless there is

    now a national mood of hysteria over the child molester- especially if

    he is or was a Catholic priest. And the mood is mindlessly punitive :

    Do not suffer a child molester to live in peace. Recall the Holy Bible:

    " Do not suffer a witch to live ! ".

                We have forgotten in our venomous wrath that the child molester

    is more often than not a pathetic VICTIM himself of mental illness -and

    himself  often a VICTIM of sexual abuse.

                 People seem to need a HATE OBJECT as an outlet for their own

    hatefulness. That is why warped prisoners just love to have a convicted

    child molester  among them to torment. The lowest of the low criminal

    is eager to torture him without mercy. In prison VIRTUE at times goes

    on a rampage !

                The news media has stirred up the virtuous public - itself

    fascinated by pornography- so much against the mentally ill and pathetic

    child molester - that it is not impossible to imagine  burning at the

    stake - a great  barbaric  entertainment - making a comeback in this

    " civilized " society.

               A guy like James Porter probably needs supervision for the

    rest of his life.  Can he control his own demons ?

             I have a theory that sexual obsession fills up a spiritual

    vacuum. Porter lost whatever FAITH he had in his Catholic religion a

    long long time ago.

                 And in general how often do people get into trouble in life

    merely because they forgot how to occupy their minds ? The Devil finds

    " entertainment " for idle minds !

              And legal as it should me, adult pornography  corrupts our

    minds. It is highly toxic and detrimental to intellectual serenity.

                  Our brainless culture  mass produces sexual perverts.

        Instead of a healthy curiosity about the wonders of the universe,

    they are forever curious about what's behind the green door ! And

    how exciting to find something more thrilling than Ivory Soap !

The Beer facts, please !

I tend to be pro-union, but in this Great Budweiser Beer

    War-involving the Teamsters Union and opportunist Democratic politicians

    -like Patrick Kennedy - I am almost tempted to remain on the sober

    sidelines. Think of how many working class people are ruined by

    excessive beer guzzling.  Delivering mind rot for the working class

    stiffs is  no more honorable a job than  mass-producing it.

                Marx said that sometimes class warfare can end in the

    common ruin of the contending classes. So can beer guzzling !

                In the Great Beer War  sobriety would ruin both capital

    and labor. And now for my cup of tea .

                 Anybody for Socialism & Sobriety ? I'm counting the votes

    already !

Baseball-when the cheering stopped !

               Not too infrequently your columnist Mark Patinkin comes

    down from the dizzying heights of banality and writes something with

    a little punch that makes some sense. He loves baseball and the sport

    has been ruined for him by greed. I agree that millionaires - unlike

    oppressed and exploited blue collar workers -do not need a bullying

    union to get them " even " with equally greedy owners. A country

    club meeting and a gentle-men's agreement should suffice to ease

    their pain.

                I coming very close to thinking the same about teachers'

    unions.   Teachers deserve their rather high incomes for the harassment

    they put up with, for the stress and frustration and misery of the

    job. But MISERY does not produce market value. Our high schools are

    mass producing functional illiterates and intellectual incompetents.

           Would we have paid Henry Ford& Co. billions to mass produce

    cars that don't even start ?   I suspect that money is not everything

    in the educational process. Gifted teachers can be found outside the

    educational establishment. Teacher Unions have become a conspiracy

    of ignorance.

                 And oh yes, just to establish my " reactionary " credentials:

    I do believe in phonics and Western Civilization !

Pilots -armed and dangerous !

At first thought -especially after Sept.11 - it might seem a

    keen idea: arming airline pilots - DON'T MESS WITH ME PUNK TERRORISTS !

              I recall a line from that violently funny Hollywood movie

    " True Romance " : " Better to have a gun and not need it than to need

    a gun and not have it ! "  says Clarence, a true Pulp hero.

                 However, I suspect that merely possessing a gun alters

    a person's character - and violent situations are PROVOKED that were

    rather improbable  under normal circumstances .

                 You could arm bus drivers with guns, come to think of it.

     But what would that do to their cheerful, charming personalities ?

                 You could arm teachers with guns... and accident room doctors

    ... and landlords and bill collectors. And certified public accountants !

                If liberals have their way, you know, gun control will be

    as commonplace as birth control.   Is LESS people a good idea ?

M.Garcia-natural born killer ?

 I just read in the Projo about the fate of the 22 year old

    killer, Michelle Garcia: " Dangerous woman gets life in jail "( July 10,

    page B1 ).  Said Superior Court Judge Robert Krause: " She's killed two

    people. She plays with guns like other people play with toys ".

               We know that as a rule conservative Republicans- who with

    great profundity see the root of wickedness in the wicked heart of the

    criminal,not in any  evil rooted in the social order-  CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICANS

    are notoriously soft on gun control : making guns as available to disturbed

    youths like Michelle - very much a crime VICTIM herself ! - making guns as

    available to them as  TOYS FOR TOTS !

                The details of Michelle Garcia's background can only arouse

    pity in minds not corroded by legal gibberish. The LAW is hopelessly behind

    modern psychology in understanding abnormal behavior. And it is  WILLFUL

    ignorance !

            .... " In Cranston, a 32 year old neighbor began having sex with

    12 year old  Michelle, resulting in the birth of her daughter "

                Clearly this incident only brought out the inherent evil

    in  Michelle !

              If she were born GOOD , God would have made her middle class

    and full of promise in life. 

                  Maybe her daughter will have a better chance in life : " I

    love you " she  told her as she was led  away to prison  - eligible for

    parole when she is 104 years old !

                 CLASS JUSTICE is this capitalist society is not just radical

    paranoia.

                   Reconsider the verdict of Michelle Garcia. There must be

     a little hope even in Hell !

Sheriff Hodgson and CLASS action

          When corporate corruption dominates the headlines, I find it

    all the  more outrageous to  read how arrogant and inhumane county

    sheriffs -like Thomas M. Hodgson - will think of new ways to psychologically

    destroy the prison UNDERCLASS  over whom he has unchecked power.

             Now the Bristol County sadist is getting headlines again

    with his plan to charge prisoners -most of whom are from the lower

    social strata - $5 a day for room and board.

              If this society makes no serious efforts to  really improve

    prison conditions, to really  REFORM  law-breakers, the prison population

    will only grow exponentially. It seems that the white collar class

    represented by Mr. Hodgson wants to INVEST in criminality !

             There are limits to the humiliation of the human spirit.

    Read " A  Tale of Two Cities " by Charles Dickens. He was right to

    trace the excesses of the French Revolution to the hard heartedness of

    the aristocracy.

          Does the  name Thomas M. Hodgson appear on a special list of

    present day
                 Madame LaFarge ?

               To be sure, he is indeed a CLASS enemy !

For Ted, No FIELD OF DREAMS ?

" Heaven is where dreams come true ". I can imagine old Ted Williams

    -favored by Heaven - awakening from mortal DEATH - finding himself the

    KID again at the plate in a dreamy Fenway Park on a hot summer afternoon.

              But suddenly everything  in the field of dreams Fenway FREEZES.

    Ted begins to feel so very, very COLD himself. He can't even swing the

    the bat !

               Then he  has a vivid memory of DYING. His son, John Henry, is

    on the phone in the bedroom talking in a very unloving tone with a stranger

    about the profits in Ted's DNA and the wonders of cryogenics.

               For Ted the heavenly field of dreams instantly disappears and

    he finds himself all alone - so very very   ALONE - on the planet Pluto.

                   If only there was crowd of fans around. He would tip his

    hat to them !

                  Ted  Williams should be buried with honors as a great baseball

    legend. Where have you gone Ted Williams ? And where has common respect

    gone ?   Honor thy father ?

Patriotic banality on the 4th !

               Conspicuous and delirious shows of " patriotism " can

    only embarrass a half-cultivated mind not untouched by " love of

    country ".  As some wise guy at the PROJO wrote : " the country is

    not a divine entity ".

                I do not find frenzied flag waving inspiring. It suggests

    a form of idolatry needing only an excuse to start bloody and stupid

    wars. I guess nothing succeeds like success : So successful has been

    our war against terrorism in Afghanistan - so free of blunder and

    miscalculation - that we announce to the world - without the world's

    consent - with complete contempt for the United Nations - the world's

    last great hope - that we soon plan to invade Iraq !

               With the help of God Almighty and loud rock music we'll GET

    Saddam just as we got that little bastard running Panama.

                 My prediction : George W. Bush will leave office as

    ignominiously as his father -  BOTH economy and war a fiasco !

                 It's no fun to find out too late that God or Allah was

    not on your side after all. In fact, HE never even gave a damm !

              " I pledge allegiance to the Pledge of Allegiance ... blah,

    blah, blah ."

         Thank God for SANE federal judges and heresy in high places !

Pilot drunks and an over-rated profession

            How many times were they NOT caught in the inebriated state,

    those two drunken pilots who scandalized their profession yesterday ?

    From a statistical point of view, it is more likely that flight XXX has

    a drunken pilot aboard than an Islamic terrorist with  Paradise HIS

    destination.

                 Does the fact that an airline pilot DARE to fly drunk suggest

    that his profession - like many other professions - are over-rated and

    ridiculously over-paid ?    If you can drive a taxi in New York City,

    perhaps you could also learn to fly " by the numbers " . And sobriety

    is not a  MUST for customer satisfaction !

                 Ah, the mystique of the PROFESSION ! Are you scheduled for

    brain surgery this morning ?    Don't worry if the surgeon staggers into

    the operating room. Didn't your drunken friend get you home safely last

    night from that downtown bar ?

                 Only the JUDGE in the courtroom need be sober nowadays. Even

    though the law itself is an ASS !

              How many people in SMART professions are great pretenders ?

                Is there ANY job in the future that cannot be mastered by

    a 13 year old in 6 weeks ?

Reading the " Jewish Voice & Herald "

I recommend that non-Jews and Rhode Island politicians read the

    " Jewish Voice & Herald " (  serving Rhode Island and Southeastern Mass. ).

              It would be ludicrous to accuse this weekly of being ethno-centric

    just as it would be to accuse the " Providence Visitor " of  having a

    Catholic bias.

             But a  news item on page 2 ( June 21 edition ) suggests a peaceful

    solution to the Jew-Palestinian conflict : " Israelis want German citizenship "  "
           " A growing number of Israelis are expected to apply for for German

    citizenship this year " , says the article.

                    The relationship between the Jews and the Palestinians is

    now as impossible as squaring the Star of David !  The only solution :

    MASS  MIGRATION of both Jews and Palestinians. The rich Arab nations

    should also  establish the equivalent of our famous Marshall Plan for

    destitute Palestinians.

                 The better educated Jews are not religious fanatics. They

    need not claim Israel as their preferred residence anymore than than

    sane Catholics would want to live in Vatican City - an " independent "

    state. The fact is Israel is just too small for  MILLIONS of Jews. The

    "Promised Land " is a land without promise - a future desert near the

    Dead Sea.

                  Whatever God that exists is no great friend of the Jews.

    Anymore than the " Lord of the Flies ".

                   We have ALL been  CHOSEN only for future oblivion and

    permanent exile from the Garden of Eden.
