- I make this COMMENT just as an interested Rhode Island resident: Sad to see the spirit of " Je Suis Charlie Hebdo " missing in ANY college or student newspaper. One should be able to speak one's mind on very controversial issues without being brainlessly branded a HATER with visions of a resurgent Nazism or Stalin Redux..
By the way, just this morning right wing Talk Radio " celebrity " Gene Valicenti suggested that influential newspapers -like the Providence Journal - ban these COMMENT opportunities because " they serve no purpose ". They are just irrelevant " noise ".
I would not want to muzzle Gene ( 630wpro.com ) or the more notorious John DePetro just because they serve a disgraceful purpose : propaganda for corporate America.
I am amazed at the arrogance of THE MOUTH .
If a reader is annoyed by COMMENTS, he or she need not click them on. They are not like Gene Valicenti pimping the state lottery every morning on the radio. I can' t NOT LISTEN to them.
