[ N. Providence town employee fired after racist rant

NORTH PROVIDENCE – Longtime town employee Darren Barnes, who worked until this week as a custodian at the North Providence Public Safety Complex, has been fired after posting a threatening and racist rant on Facebook.

"Lol BLACK LIVES MATTER but yet you don't have any N----- FRIENDS U MENTION MY KID dying in a war or any negative comment I will hunt u down and split your N----- LIVING HEAD IN TWO and who ever your with boyfriend sister mother father or the whole N----- NATION nothing will stop me from nailing your FAT HEAD TO THE WALL," he posted.

Mayor Charles Lombardi told The Breeze he couldn't wait to inform Barnes that he'd been fired at 7 a.m. Friday morning.

"He said, 'I screwed up.' I said, 'you did, there's no room for guys like you here. Now put everything on the table that you owe us,' and the deputy escorted him out of the building," said Lombardi.

There is no space and zero tolerance for such racist thinking or behavior in the town, said Lombardi. He emphasized that Barnes is not a Police Department employee, but a town employee. ]
