A democratic socialist myself I always sensed something EVIL about the crude hostility to Catholicism , to Christianity in general , to the very idea of God on the secular liberal and Marxist left .
Why is " socialism " still feared by the vast majority of ordinary people ? It is a very complex subject . But the " original sin " of 20th century socialism goes back to the pre-Stalinist days of the 1917 Russian Revolution when Lenin's Bolshevik party declared their state to be " officially atheist ".
What kind of revolutionary brilliance can be so lacking in emotional intelligence ? At that point in " Catholic " Europe - Italy , France , Spain, Portugal- the voice of Fatima had more credibility than the atheist ogre voice of the Kremlin .
Just a thought . The Left rarely debates this hostility to religious FAITH which keeps most human beings on the side of GOOD . What hell breaks loose when God is mocked.
