I just noticed the cover of the 2019 New Republic at the Cranston Public library : " The Socialist Moment ". Yes, while SOCIALISM is in the air and on the air - and while oh-so-credible Fox News has SOCIALISM invading the Democratic Party - old fashioned professional journalism might investigate with a minimum of bias why so many Marxist sectarian socialist parties and organizations are imploding or have degenerated into daffy personality cults led by some permanent GREAT LEADER ( often with a very capitalistic bank account ) . The latest ideological casualty was the ISO ( International Socialist Organization ) .
The traditional fear of SOCIALISM among ordinary people is a complex subject . For now I, an INDEPENDENT democratic socialist, have just one simple opinion : The ORIGINAL SIN of 20th century SOCIALISM dates from the pre-Stalinist Russian Revolution in 1917 when Lenin's victorious Bolshevik Party declared their state " officially atheist ".
How could still " Catholic " Europe- Italy , France , Spain , Portugal react to that ? Where God is mocked Hell is let loose.
