I remember very well the chaos and the cop violence at the Democratic
National Convention in that tumultuous year 1968. There was a sharp
class conscious New Left active back then.
The cop violence in the streets of Chicago -denounced on the floor of the convention - had nothing to do with race and everything to do with bloody war and U.S. imperialism. Yes, to quote Black Muslim Malcom X : the chickens were coming home to roost.
Relevant to today's killer cop stories was a Mayor Richard Daley quote : " The policeman is not there to create disorder ; the policeman is there to preserve disorder ".
The solution to the present chaos is not hawkish, " Wall St. Hillary ". We need a new New Left.
