That old Washington Park neighborhood transformed by " culture of poverty "

I came across the phrase " culture of poverty " in Michael Harrington's book " The Other America " years ago.  In  the 50s and 60s my family was living in this Washington Park neighborhood, back then considered distinct away from some racial line in South Providence.

If you want to get a little empathy for the kind of culture various Latino people bring to South Providence read " The Children of Sanchez "- which is also a journey into the heart of darkness.

Even that old movie classic musical " West Side Story " hints at problems of adjustment in " America " ( Leonard Bernstein ).

By the middle 70s Washington Park was unrecognizable  to me .Latino night club riot in old Washington Park
