Face of H.P. Lovecraft less incongruous on a Campbell's Soup can

I think basic science literacy would check pure hysteria in this debate over genetically modified food. Mother Nature is ALWAYS " modifying " the DNA of each and every species. However human beings can meddle in the ecological system in ways that could prove disastrous. Our own over-population is a threat to all life on earth. The sinister image of the Frankenstein monster has been with us since the beginning of the Age of Science.
Just a footnote: The cosmic horror writer H.P. Lovecraft died in near poverty in the Great Depression Year of 1937.In a letter he lists Campbell's Soup as a staple in his diet. Presently his American Gothic face is helping to sell Narragansett Beer. Lovecraft abhorred ALL alcoholic beverages. So his now world famous face might be less incongruous on a Campbell's Soup can.
