For some time now the U.S. ruling class- with the help of subservient politicians like Governor Gina Raimondo - has been presiding over the New Austerity for the most vulnerable citizens, those most in need of government subsidized services-like RIPTA. Indeed " we are all Greeks now ". It would seem that Little Rhody should have a model public transportation system for the whole nation. Nobody should absolutely NEED A CAR here. RIPTA management seems contemptuous of convenient bus schedules for working people. I noticed last week how widely spaced bus stops were on a main street in Pawtucket . And how infrequent the stops. How dangerously crowded the late afternoon bus trip back to Kennedy Plaza. The stress of the job makes usually decent bus drivers sometimes rather rude.
Way back in the late 60s my grandmother enjoyed riding the bus for free -after age 65. I recall that this was a privilege for ALL senior citizens - whatever their income. My little sister was riding with her grandmother one day . She told her that she could not wait to be old too so she could enjoy riding the bus for free.
" Sissy " is now 63. I would advise her to keep her car- and her job if possible after age 65.
Perhaps my " socialist " Democrat Bernie Sanders has a solution to capitalist ordered " austerity " ( not for the ONE PERCENT, of course ). I myself recommend the " democracy of the street ".
