Neither conservative,liberal,
or plain old fashioned mystical Catholicism will gives its blessing to
present day Israel-accurately described as Zionist, apartheid,even
aggressive imperialist with its " Greater Israel " project. Exhorting
the Palestinians to shun terrorism in no way implies that Israel-armed
with a superior military force, backed by U.S. imperialism, and with a
nuclear arsenal ( hardly mentioned)-is not guilty of war crimes and
atrocities against the Palestinian people.
An irony : way back in 1975 the United Nations declared Zionism to be a form of racism. But in the decades since the U.S. news media-under pressure from the Israel lobby- has made anti-Zionism a form of racism. Too many intellectual , formerly " leftist ", Jews have become Israel fanatics.
Scholars like Howard Zinn and Noam Chomsky are an inspiring exception.
