I read this headline with a sardonic smile: "French economist wins Nobel for his work on regulation" (AP). The Royal Swedish Academy of Science highlighted his role in clarifying "how to understand and regulate industries with a few powerful firms.
Has Jean Tirole- "one of the most influential economists of our time" ever had a useful, truly scientific insight on how to END capitalist oppression and exploitation? How to stop making the ONE PERCENT richer at the expense of the rest of long suffering humanity?
Could a convinced Marxist ever be a finalist for a Nobel Prize in economics? I have thought for decades now that Karl Marx deserves a posthumous Nobel Prize for his insight into capitalist wealth creation. Nope, no magic here. Just an application of 19th century proofs of the conservation of energy: in short, you can't get something (certainly not a great fortune) for nothing- not even with pure Robber Baron arrogance and greed.
