" Cranston Mayor O'Leary Arrested " ?

 Writes James Hackett in a letter to the editor June 28 :

    " While we sink deeper into our problems, he continues to lie about

    what is going on and what is being done about it ". He is Cranston's

    mayor O' Leary -  now so unpopular that he does not dare run for

    re-election.

             Like Providence City Hall, Cranston City Hall just might be

    a cesspool of corruption.  Millions of dollars are missing ! Mass

    resignations of police officers and political hacks. Today we learn

    that DeLorenzo is leaving.

                 Remember " Deep Throat "  of Watergate fame ? " Follow

    the money " he advises the young investigating reporters.

           On page B1 today ( June 28 ) there is a shocking news story

    of a cocaine ring  - a " major distribution  network " ... " centered

    in Cranston  : " Police Probe leads to arrests of 46 people in cocaine

    ring ".

          Ironically West Bay published a letter of mine on March 5 titled

    " Vicious dogs rule " . The reader at first might have thought that  the

    letter was about Cranston politicians.

             Now I have every reason to suspect that the attractive young

    lady whose vicious dog chased me into the street  - a lady with a cell

     phone and a nice car -and a  FOP sticker  on her license plate - was

    a mafia princess connected to the cocaine network . The Hollywood

    movie would have her as Mayor O' Leary's girlfriend.

            Where did all that money go ? Well, in the movie  SOME of it

    went right up the lying mayor's nose ! His nose at least has grown in

    office !

               I hope the State Police and the FBI and Bob Kerr read THIS

    letter. A future Pulitzer Prize for the Providence Journal ?

Cheap Patriotism and " The Pledge "

 I disagree with the notion that " The Pledge of Allegiance "

    will make life unconstitutionally miserable for budding atheists and

    future ACLU lawyers.

                Isn't it only DEMOCRATIC to live with majority opinion, to

    respect the religious and patriotic feelings of the mob while insisting

    that minorities not be PERSECUTED ?

                Fanatical atheists react to the name of God as Satan to

    holy water and  Count Dracula to the crucifix !

              Yet I commend those " Left-Coast judges "  for making us think

    a little. Are not kids  - who are too young to sign contracts - also too

    young to make  a serious " pledge " ?

              Until there is some maturity of mind how can pledge of allegiance

    to  a symbol - the red, white, and blue flag of the United States - mean

    anything more than loyalty  to  the New England Patriots, the Boston Red Sox,

    the HOME TEAM ?

                 Without the mania of 4th of July Patriots - often more loyal

    to SYMBOLS than VALUES -  the vast majority of citizens would feel patriotism

    as a natural emotion.

             For me the Flag and the Pledge of Allegiance  stand for UNITY

    within our DIVERSITY.  Especially after September 11 the GLUE of our

    society becomes more important than ever.

               But an especially patriotic bunch of citizens - that seedy

    leftists refer to as the RULING CLASS - would just love to have the news

    media focus on  inane controversy rather than on corporate corruption

    and a floundering war against terrorism.

" Cianci Resigns- No Jail Time "

 " Cianci Resigns- but No Jail Time ". That is the headline I

    want to read in the Providence Journal next week.

                The jury verdict -which I can respect - is ingeniously

    enigmatic : How can the mayor be  guilty of nothing in particular but

    at the same time guilty of EVERYTHING ?

                 Judge Torres must resolve this paradox. I agree with

    today's PROJO editorial that " Buddy " should resign. And I agree with

    M. Charles Bakst that only nitwits will put our " Buddy " on a pedestal.

                   " Buddy " - who is his own best buddy - is wise to

    resign. He is now too tainted to continue in office.

                A profound or obtuse German philosopher once wrote : " The

    truth is concrete ". Applied to the Providence Mayor it means you can't

    send him to jail because he LOOKS crooked !

               So I repeat : FREE BUDDY !  But also, " BUDDY GO HOME ! "

" Certified Mail " panic attack

I hate getting "  YOU GOT MAIL " - that is, CERTIFIED MAIL -

    messages on a Friday. That gives me all week-end to imagine the worst,

    as the post office is closed until 10 A.M.  Monday morning.

              I  stared at the sinister message , standing dazed in front

    of my mail box.  A law suit ? A moment of empathy with  Providence

    Mayor, "  Buddy " Cianci : the  miserable waiting game. " Is there a

    jail cell in my future ? "

               Monday morning arrives. The CERTIFIED mail is from the insurance

    agency of a company I work for - part time. I learn that my claim for

    workers compensation has been denied. Sob ?  No, only one problem here:

    I NEVER  even applied for workers compensation. I never ever claimed that

    I had a work related injury.

                  How could a report like that go unverified , pass  through

    higher and higher levels of bureaucracy all the way to the insurance agency

    which having no FACTS to consider, must necessarily deny the claim ?

                The next Friday I get a letter from my lawyer, John Revens

    in Warwick: My claim for workers compensation is undermining a civil suit

    in which I am involved.

           I fax Revens denying I ever made a ILLEGAL claim for workers

    compensation. I call the office of  Rhode Island Workers Compensation.

    They ask for my social security number:  037-32-6384.

                 In so many words : " You did make a first claim for workers

    compensation. A dog  attacked you on the job ".

                  " No I never ever made a claim that I was injured on the

    job ".

                 Then more bureaucratic idiocy : " We will say you called, sir "

            How about  INVESTIGATING the matter. FALSE information sent to

    a state agency, I believe, is a felonious matter.

                  It seems that somebody in the company - somebody both

    stupid and crooked - did this  FAVOR for me.

                A police report and a hospital report - and witnesses at

    the job site - will show beyond a doubt the Rhode Island Workers Compensation

    has a FALSE report on me.

                  Erase the infamy ! And find the culprit ! I will involve

    the State Police and the FBI  - and John Edward - the psychic.

Supremely " retarded " high court !

 One expects that the type of individuals who make it all the

    way to our Supreme Court are possessed of an exquisite sense of JUSTICE,

    a semi-divine FEEL for Good and Evil, Right and Wrong.

                   But remember, before the Civil War they were behind

    humane public opinion on the burning issue of slavery. Now I read in

    today's newspapers that THEY have collectively discovered that it might

    be unjust to execute mentally retarded people.

              This same court may at some time in the future get a revelation

    from the Holy Ghost that it is equally unjust to execute  mentally ill

    persons.

                And at this rate of moral re-awakening , by the end of the

    century, they might even reconsider the death penalty.

                  Or even revoke the presidency of George W. Bush !

News: Everyday Groundhog Day ?

Sad thing, the pedophile scandals in the Catholic Church.

    Sad thing, Arabs killing Jews, Jews killing Arabs. But every story has

    an end, every book a last chapter. The reader also looks for a plot and

    a meaning. For months now the  NEWS , it seems, has been inspired by a

    comic movie, " Groundhog Day ".

              It is a statistical certainty that there are child molesters

    in the Catholic Church. But the story - and I am no fan of modern

    Catholicism - is beginning to remind me of a heartless, ruthless witch-hunt.

             With equal obsession the media could focus on homosexuals in

    the Boy Scouts or just in high places.  I'm sure they could sniff out

    plenty of child molesters, too.

                How many landlords qualify as SLUMLORDS ? Write about

    that !

               The war between the Jews in Israel and those maniacal Palestinians

    should finally be relegated to back page news - like tribal warfare in

    Africa. The heart of darkness never stops beating. But LIFE moves on !

Graduating Sober but Illiterate ?

The business of the public high school is EDUCATION, the

    teachers TEACH, the students LEARN.  What matters is the subject matter

    - math, science, history, literature. But it seems that our schools can

    hardly teach the kids the ABCs.  Soon most of Rhode Island will be

    semi-literate or illiterate.

              Now I read about the principal of Middletown High School, John

    Regan, who would  ban an honor student , Alicia Moriarty, from commencement

    because she had been drinking before the prom.

           The man is a sanctimonious jackass - all POMP under the circumstances !

           As for me - if the kid had taken LSD on prom night, it was none of

    the school's business.  And some drinkers are excellent THINKERS. Just

    don't drive !

               True  enough, public education has become  " a conspiracy of

    ignorance " .  Too many teachers know more  and more about how to teach

    less and less. A Doctor of Education should get as much respect as the

    average chiropractor.

                 To the graduates :  CHEERS !

Insensitive commercials make us ruder ?

           Those sub-idiotic TV commercials are getting  more and more

    ugly, offensive , and mean spirited. Have you seen this one: a fairly

    good looking young man is noticed by a fairly attractive young lady.

    But Ugg ! When he smiles, she sees that he could use the services of

    a good dentist.His only hope for those crooked teeth is Delta Dental !

             I guess if you are almost attractive, no dentist would

    just love to prove his skills on you - unless he sees the cash !

    Is there a weirdo dentist out there who just loves his work ? Who

    would just lOVE to improve your smile ?  Are there weirdo doctors

    who would just lOVE to cure you of whatever disease afflicts you ?

    Are there weirdo teachers who would just LOVE to teach you ?

              By the way WHO is teaching the kids  manners nowadays ?

    " Hey you have a fat butt ! " a punk shouts out the window of the

    Cranston St. bus. The driver scolds him. I reflect: The epidemic

    of bad manners is more repulsive than the epidemic of obesity.

               The punk calls another kid at school " fat butt " or

    inspired by the TV commercial " buck teeth " . Buck Teeth or

    Fat Butt was daydreaming of being beautiful. But there is another

    way to get attention, to be a celebrity. The next day he returns to

    school with a gun : " See ME on TV tonight, assholes ! "

Pacheco -raw material for a novel

 I don't know the FACTS about the  recent tragedy at

    the Providence Journal Production Facility. But I did read very

    carefully the Sunday Journal  story yesterday which focused on the

    mind of the disturbed employee, one Carlos Pacheco.

                Pacheco  lived most of his 38 years in my old neighborhood,

    Washington Park in Providence, R.I.  In one generation the neighborhood

    has evolved from lower middle class -blue  collar to what it is

    today - a semi-ghetto dominated by Hispanic immigrants.

         Who today remembers the Washington Park of the Eisenhower-Kennedy

    years, the time of post war prosperity ?

                One THEME that strikes me  in the Carlos Pacheco tragedy

    is the " blue collar blues ".   In truth most of the  Providence

    Journal " white collar " types at 75  Fountain St. don't have a

    clue about the " blue collar " culture at the Production Journal

    Production Facility off Kinsley Ave.

               The key word in the understanding of the work place

    environment at Production Facility is  ALIENATION. You have to

    understand that " political correctness " is not the rule in a

    place like that.

               The average drudge over there is not delicate  in

    expressing his  or her opinion of an odd ball like Carlos Pacheco.

                You can imagine him being called a SCAB and a FAGGOT

    MAMMA's BOY every night at work. A lot of the workers at the

    Production Facility are not PROJO employees but  " contemptible

    temps " sent by agencies such as " Preferred Labor ".  Most of

    the temps don't even speak English.  So even a blue collar supervisor

    might not be  aware of work place harassment.

                 Does anybody write novels anymore about blue collar

    misery in America ?

                 James T. Farrell would have loved the  PROJO Production

    Facility as background for another Studs Lonigan story.

              Like Studs, Carlos Pacheco may have been saved  by some

    rudiments of middle class culture. Was the Public Library as

    foreign to Carlos as the Dallas Cowboys are to PROJO professionals ?

                 Too dumb for management, too stupid to join the union -

    Carlos Pacheco was a  victim of a decaying social class- blue collar

    America.

Bastard protection law ?

An AP headline today : " Non-fathers fight laws upholding

    child-support pay " : " even after they belatedly discover they are

    not the child's biological father ".

            Hypocritically the supporters of such an unfair law say :

    BUT THINK OF THE CHILD !

               Just as a raped woman made pregnant by a loathsome

    rapist is told by religious fanatics - PRO-LIFE : " Contemplating

    an abortion ? But think of the innocent child ! "

                Morals that make a free spirit puke !

             If society REALLY cared about kids, it would guarantee them

    health care and all the education they want.

              How UNFAIR that a kid's fate depends so much on the circumstances

    of its parents. It does take a COMMUNITY to raise a child - a cuckold

    husband at least needs a helping hand from the tax payer, from the

    government.

              What CHEATING HEARTS we are !

Robidoux guilty of RELIGION ?

 I question the first -degree murder conviction of the

    Attleboro sect weirdo - he let his infant son starve to death having

    had a revelation from the Lord that recalls the Biblical story of

    Abraham - piously ready to carry out orders from the Supreme Commander

    of the Universe, God Almighty .

             Jacques D. Robidoux is first of all a religious NUT. Like

    many religious nuts he trusted the Lord and the Lord - which is often

    the way of the Lord - disappointed his hopes.

              The Pope is telling the impoverished masses -especially

    good Catholics - to be fruitful and multiply. Scientists are certain

    of a future population catastrophe imagined by Malthus - mass

    starvation, MILLIONS starving.

             We are told the matter is hands of the Lord... You know

    the song :  He's got the whole world, He's got the whole world in

    HIS hands  !

                A lot of people can be arrested for acting in accordance

    with religious delusions. How about our own Attorney General of

    the United States ? Does he hear the voice of the Lord too ?

                  Robidoux is guilty of unintentional murder. A damm

    FOOL !

Achieve phoniness in just 15 minutes !

 I read and respect The Christian Science Monitor. But its

    advertising is not above ethical and intellectual level of our more

    despicable used car salesman. On page 5 of the June 12 paper appears

    a full page ad for a vocabulary building course : " Now, you can amass

    a HARVARD GRADUATE'S VOCABULARY in just 15 minutes a day ! "

            The suggestion  here is that in just a short time you also

    acquire a Harvard graduate's intellectual ability and the APPEARANCE

    of an Ivy League education.

              Now how do you REALLY improve your mind ? By serious and

    prolonged study of intellectually challenging literature. Anybody who

    suddenly  begins to use a high powered vocabulary invariably makes an

    ass out of himself : THE GREAT PRETENDER !

              May I suggest that 15 minutes a day spent reading  YOUR

    newspaper editorials ( and NY Times, Boston Globe, Providence Journal,

    USA Today.... The National Inquirer  )   may do more to improve the

    mind of the ambitious nitwit - too mentally lazy to READ good books  ?

             After taking your advertised VOCABULARY COURSE , you may

    qualify to run for the Mayor of Providence - as the EDUCATION candidate.

               But I might prefer our Buddy Cianci and his Federal Hill

    equivalent of Ebonics. Tell it like it is, Buddy !

No funeral mass for sinner Gotti ?

 I am more bemused than outraged that a sinner amongst us - one

    John Gotti - was denied a funeral mass. An image problem for the  Catholic

    Church which will no doubt -in the future - deny the dignity of a funeral

    mass to many other sinners , among them pedophile priests, homosexuals,

    women who had abortions, Catholic politicians who were " pro-choice ",

    errant theologians.

             But who will be left amongst us  sinners to forgive the Church

    for 2000 years of intellectual tyranny and moral arrogance ?

               John Gotti was at least as respectable as some long dead Popes

    and Cardinals. He deserved more RESPECT from the Church that instructed

    him on the nature of GOOD and EVIL.

           Didn't the Baltimore Catechism suggest that only God renders a

    last judgment on  the soul of the sinner ?

               RIP John Gotti !

Marriage and " all you need is love " ?

I'll do for Holy Matrimony what Ebenezer Scrooge did for

    Christmas : Bah HUMBUG ! Humbug, I tell you !  That's what I

    think as see the newly weds Paul McCartney and the former Heather

    Mills beaming on the front pages of newspapers.

              For some reason modern feminism went SOFT on the institution.

    The older generation of feminists were influenced by socialist theory

    and could see how  marriage & family were integral to the crazy

    consumer society and everyday capitalist exploitation.

            It is easier for the boss to bully a married man: " You

    want the GOOD LIFE for your beautiful family, don't you ? Well

    get with the program or see you in the gutter ! "

          And despite feminist influence, married women are the true

    slave drivers of the world. SHE invariably needs a little more,

    a lot more than love. And what kind of  MAN are you if you can't

    provide it for her ?

           Even your kids will judge you as an economic being. If

    you can't get the little brats EVERYTHING they want for Christmas,

    then take a hint from old Willie Loman in " Death of a Salesman ".

               The newly married man walks out of that Church door a

    diminished man. A man FOR SALE !

              I myself just could never trust an institution surrounded

    by MEN in dresses or robes, priests, judges. They show you all

    about LOVE when you are finally ready for a divorce !

            As for proud parents of children,  worms and maggots also

    reproduce the race. And a MIRACLE times 6 billion is a catastrophe!

            And they still cry at weddings !

Projo Rampage and Carlos Pacheco

A bloody tragedy at the Providence Journal Production

    Facility last Saturday. All I know about the horror is what I read

    in the newspapers. But something about the  " maniac " killer, Carlos

    Pacheco does not make much sense: He  was under pressure to join the

    Teamsters Union - famous for gangster tactics - but " all employees who

    are not members must pay 92 percent of union dues, as Pacheco had done"

    ( Boston Globe, June 11, page B-5 ) .

               Why not join the union if you are paying for its " protection "

    -dubious or real ? Was it against Pacheco's Catholic faith to join a

    union where one might be needed ? Against his moral principles  ? Against

    his own economic interests ?

              Question : Was Carlos Pacheco -in fact - being pressured NOT

    to join the union by individuals in management ?

                 The Belo Corporation has no great love for unions -in case

    you don't know.

                 But none of this was equal to  crime of murder.

Skakel and revenge for Chappaquiddick

Perhaps Michael Skakel is as guilty as sin for the murder of

    Martha Moxley in 1975. If he is indeed guilty of a juvenile atrocity,

    he should have learned long ago that confession is good for the soul

    even when you are not drunk .  And Camelot is  long dead, so being

    connected to the Kennedy clan does not mean you can get away with

    ANYTHING,. No, not even getting elected to public office. And certainly

    not  MURDER !

               Nevertheless the verdict surprised me. I thought too much

    time had passed and - apart from DNA evidence - no fair jury could be

    sure beyond a reasonable doubt that the 15 year old Skakel kid murdered

    Martha Moxley.

             Is this revenge for Chappaquiddick ? I wonder. There is a

    certain pathological hatred for the Kennedy clan out there. ALL

    of them must pay for the SINS OF THE FATHER , " Old Joe " - never

    quite accepted by American ruling class circles. But he got his

    revenge :" I'm for Roosevelt !  "

                I read enough about the Kennedy family to realize that

    the rich and famous have just as much right to be miserable as the

    rest of us.

              In a way  Bobby Kennedy's extended family was ruined by one

    Sirhan Sirhan in 1968. He was the only " father figure " left for the

    clan.

               For any kid to be a drunk at 15 suggests a very tormented

    soul.

              The child lives in the adult. But we judge adults and juvenile

    criminals by different standards.

               Michael Skakel deserves a new trial - and a FAIR sentence.

              In Rhode Island we can hardly keep one Craig Price in jail.

    He was a very bad boy, Craig. He murdered a whole family.

Bureaucracy corrodes DEMOCRACY

            We read in our newspapers - themselves highly bureaucratic in

    their power structure - that the RIGID FBI bureaucracy works against

    the very purpose of the organization - INFORMATION gathering and

    analysis- inseparable from its practical activities.

                I am reminded of the scandals in the Catholic Church : how

    could the bishop not know about all this, how could the Cardinal, the

    Pope not know ?

             Here in Rhode Island : How could our Mayor " Buddy " Cianci not

    know about the low-life corruption right under his nose ?

              We should realize that DEMOCRACY is confined to a very limited

    area of our life: on election day we get to vote for tweedle-dum or

    tweedle-dee. On the job - working for the COMPANY or  in some government

    office - DEMOCRACY - independent judgment, QUESTIONING the big shots is

    not to be tolerated. Fear and intimidation reinforce the pecking order.

    The last thing that is respected is TRUTH !

             A nation of rude and brainless robots is determined to save

    Democracy -and protects us from more  brainless robots - who kill

    themselves and many innocents for the greater glory of Allah .

               The average American worker is living in a stunned trance.

    He fears waking up one morning and realizing that his life is meaningless

    because he is NOT free, not even free to THINK the truth !

             Just tell the TRUTH about  ANYTHING and see how fast you climb

    the agonizing ladder of success !

" Consider new church " ( letter USA TODAY )

            UNHOLY MOTHER Church ?

 In a letter to USA Today, reader Al Doyle advises demoralized

    Catholics- heartbroken over this pedophile scandal - to just LEAVE

    the  Church. Leave the now UNHOLY Mother Church ?

                  Knowing the Catholic mentality rather well - myself

    still respectfully on the fringe of this 2000 year old institution -

    I don't expect a mass exodus from the Church, with many Catholics

    becoming born-again Bible reading fundamentalists.

              For me the Pope still has more appeal than our TV evangelists.

    But when he passes away, I'll bet there will be CHAOS in the Church -

    a big crack in the Rock of Ages.

               I am no conservative in religion or politics. But I have

    deep feeling that Vatican II ruined the Catholic Church of my youth.

    The loss of the Latin mass was a loss of a vital mystique. And

    when I do attend mass now and then, I dread that hand-shaking

    nonsense. You can shake hands with any swindler on Wall St.

              And I never wanted  a priest to be a REGULAR guy. I

    wanted him to be - well Christ like !

Free Joe Mollicone !

             I'm no friend of white collar criminals. But in general I

    have less FEAR of them than the violent street hoodlum who will cut

    a law abiding citizen's throat for pocket change.

            Today I read that "old " Joe Mollicone - a talented and

    charming embezzler - " will get a chance for parole " on June 20

    ( Providence Journal, June 4, page B1 ).

            I agree with Mollicone lawyer, Robert B.Mann, that " he's

    served an extraordinary long period of time. "

              Perhaps Joe can explain his FALL in an autobiography . He

    is still young enough to have been molded by the 60s " idealism.

                 At age 54 I am wondering why my idealistic " radical "

    generation became on the whole so compromised -if not as rotten and

    corrupt as the Establishment they rebelled against.

            The world is a mess today because OUR generation -not the

    GREATEST GENERATION - failed miserably to live up to their youthful

    ideals.

           Say it ain't so, Joe !


          P.S.  Free Buddy too. No hero,but a bunch of tow truck goons

    should not suffice to send the less than honorable mayor of the Renaissance

    City to jail. Jail is an awful place for ANYBODY !

Now the Sewer Monster strikes Cranston !

As if Cujo on the loose is not bad enough news for troubled

    Cranston, R.I - now the Sewer Monster strikes !  TV news reported

    Sunday night that horrid fecal matter sewage FLOODED the basements-

    causing thousands of dollars of property damage - of a number of

    Cranston, R.I. homes.  I expect a more detailed report of this

    nightmare in PLEASANT Cranston in the West Bay News of the PROJO

    and that inane local rag The Cranston Herald .

             Who's RESPONSIBLE for the damage ? asks the news lady.

           That backed up sewage is not just a hepatitis threat. It

    is a veritable plague ! May I suggest that you send your bills

    to the Democrat Monopoly that misrules this once nice city ?

                   Dear Mr. Municipal Junkbond Mayor: Sorry to report

    that.... I'll bet he has a pit bull there to greet his constituents !
