As a longtime independent democratic socialist I am appalled by the relentless attacks of the smug ( possibly satanic ? ) New Atheism evangelists on Catholicism and Christianity in general. The biggest mistake of the old Soviet Union was not SOCIALISM . It was making itself a dreary " officially atheist " tyranny . I can easily associate godless WOKE WARRIOR ideology with the pseudo-liberal Democratic Party . If " fascism " has any roots in " OUR democracy ", it is right there on the " progressive " ( ? ) Left. For decades now the WOKE WARRIOR Democratic Party has mocked the FREE SPEECH, FREE THOUGHT tradition of Western Civilization - not ( yet ) Donald Trump and the MAGA-Republicans . I certainly don't believe in checking off " UNFRIEND " beside the name of any family members , friends , or acquaintances who voted ( out of desperation ? ) for Donald Trump. UNFRIEND is not in the spirit of the New Testament , is it ? Perhaps the wacky New Atheists will amass the funds to build a rival " Cathedral of Atheism " with an altar housing a trapped God Particle " or even a trapped " Son of God " Particle blessed at CERN . And Sunday sermons from a high priest of the Church of the Big Bang . FAITH will certainly survive the assaults of the spiritually bankrupt , neurotic New Atheism.
