Getting the FOIL method for factoring trinomials was a turning point in my understanding of Junior High School Algebra. And using the then strange concept of negative numbers and the trick of letting a letter X stand for the UNKNOWN number, you could solve problems all but impossible to solve with ordinary arithmetic skills. The laws of physics were expressed in simple Algebra equations like F equals MA. A school days eureka moment!
