Human mortality is the universal condition. As a longtime independent democratic socialist I asked myself for years why sentimentalized and revered " Marriage & Family " can arouse such murderous emotions when romantic 'love " fades or is cruelly betrayed. While the human mating game ,with all its tricks and surprises, must be a million years old , modern bourgeois marriage -the product of capitalist culture based on sacrosanct PRIVATE PROPERTY - has been more effective in warping the human soul. The fact is Marriage & Family in THIS economic order is more and more destructive of human relationships . Just browse through whole shelves full of books in any public library offering " wise " advice to divorced people. And gay marriage inevitably falls into the same trap ( not often very tender as goes the Frank Sinatra song ) . Depressed divorced persons can benefit little from predatory marriage counselors and psychiatrists.. Sooner or later Marriage & Family must cease to conform to the OWNERSHIP society. Perhaps OJ was always a perfect NICE GUY whose mind was poisoned by values and impulses all too conventional - values celebrated in cheering, noisy , crowded football stadiums ? Did not Freud teach that THE BEAST lurks in all of us ? Especially when it comes to COMPETITION FOR MATES in the sexual jungle ? RIP OJ and all your victims .
