The emotions on display at Gillette Stadium go back to the Roman Colosseum - I myself root for the home team !
Radical left sociologists have a lot to say about the violent game of American football. It seems that even the fans are fired up with something very much like war fever- THEM vs. US :

I suppose it is natural for any human being who likes sports to root for the home team. But these games have psychological roots that go back to the beginning of " civilized " warfare . Read or re-read the Greek poet Homer's epic " The Illiad ". Bloody " THEM vs. US " war . I know for a fact that for many Italo -Americans Mario Puzo 's " The Godfather " ( along with movie ) is their Illiad - "what LIFE is all about " . Warlike emotions are on display in Gillette Stadium on the field and in the stands. The MOB has a psychology of its own that often cancels the will and common sense of the individual. As illustrated by those headline making brawls after soccer games in Europe. And BOXING fans have a really savage aura that goes back to the Roman Colosseum.
I don't like the smoldering, ominous signs of violence but I myself root for the home team . In New England that includes the Patriots and , of course, the Boston Red Sox.
The loyal fans of the WINNING team seem blessed by the gods -even on the next day Manic Monday.
