As a longtime independent democratic socialist I think that the main obstacle to housing the homeless is landlord-capitalist PRIVATE PROPERTY rights. None of the 40+ prominent citizens on the board of CROSSROADS , for example, will think outside this ideological box of capitalist " normalcy " . Yet, even within THE SYSTEM there is potentially formidable antagonism to ABSOLUTE private property rights : there is the always dreaded Internal Revenue Service- which could easily seize any slumlord's FOR PROFIT property. Then there is : ".The Government's Power of Eminent Domain to Condemn Private Property ". There is no lack of livable buildings to house the homeless in " OUR democracy ". There is no solution to the homeless crisis in America within the status quo. There must be some AUTHORITARIAN approach here. THE LAW should declare that homeless people have a right to HOME - not a" right " to BE homeless and an ACLU supported " right" to beg in the streets. If homelessness gets completely out of control , American FASCISM might beat democratic socialism to a SOLUTION for homelessness USA .
