[Michelle Fontes, who participated in the 1992 protest and now works at the university, welcomed the change.
"I am happy to have been part of the activism that took place in 1992 and this quote finally being removed is proof that our new administration is listening and striving to do better," she said.
The university is installing blank panels of matching granite where the quote used to be.]
NOTE : URI is clearly dishonoring the memory of Black revolutionary leader Malcolm X twice. How was the man honored - not slighted , not snubbed - by an UNATTRIBUTED ( and innocuous ) quote in the first place ?
If URI really wanted to honor what Malcolm X stood for I offer my favorite Malcolm X quote :
" Show me a capitalist and I will show you a blood sucker ". Display that on the front of the URI Library in Kingston.
