Sad to report Richard Dujardin's death yesterday in a tragic -and horrible - draw bridge accident : ["A 77-year-old Rhode Island man was vacationing in Milwaukee with his wife when he died in a gruesome fall as a downtown bridge opened, authorities said. Richard Dujardin of Providence, Rhode Island, is seen in an undated family photo. Dujardin died when he fell from the Kilbourn Avenue Bridge in Milwaukee as it was opening. As more details emerged Tuesday about the man's death, questions remained as to how the bridge operator — controlling it remotely — could have missed the man on the bridge in surveillance video. He is now on leave. "] An ABSURD tragedy right out of an Albert Camus " Notebook " . From Camus' novel " The Fall ". One religion writer speculated that Camus would come out of the ABSURD cold and convert to Catholicism. But he too died an absurd death in a car accident in France in 1960 having won the Nobel Prize for Literature : “A single sentence will suffice for modern man. He fornicated and read the papers. After that vigorous definition, the subject will be, if I may say so, exhausted.” ― Albert Camus, The Fall NOTE : Newspapers are not read as much now as when Mr. Dujardin was at the peak of his career at 75 Fountain St. in Providence. Falling circulation. Mr. Dujardin wrote with real sensitivity on hot controversial topics like abortion. Reporting this story this morning 630 WPRO 's Gene Valicenti momentarily reflected on the " cruelty " and " randomness " of the universe . Valicenti is a low key Catholic from an Italo-American background. But even Catholic saints wrote about " the dark night of the soul " I myself am a long time independent democratic socialist but I completely agree here with Mr. Dujardin 's PRO-LIFE point of view and with his anger at thugs on the left who would attack the FREE SPEECH rights of millions of decent religious and patriotic citizens far removed from their not very democratic ( or " socialist " ! ) GROUP THINK. Sadly STALINIST history has poisoned many fine minds and good hearts against " socialism " even as an ideal. Yet the social philosophy of Catholic Church is not far removed from pristine socialism . The earl Christians were described as practicing " socialism " not tyranny !
