War monument vandalized in Providence

I was appalled by the barbaric attacks on the Christopher Columbus statue that stood for years at the cross section of Elmwood and Reservoir Ave. in Providence. As if shaking your fist at lifeless monuments can solve any form of social injustice. I suspect the individuals involved do not operate with ANY radical political theory. They are very probably just ignorant derelicts with no purpose in life. What is in the air in USA 2022 is the contagion of godless NIHILISM . Still I wonder if our Memorial Day ceremonies are arranged more to honor WAR- " the blood swollen god " (Virgil ) than fallen veterans. How many " broken " living veterans get fixed ?
