As a democratic socialist I can see how these diverse " BLACK LIVES MATTER " groups should appreciate MARXIST insights on role of the police in capitalist America and the impossibility of using either the Democratic Party or the Republican Party to stop irrational violence - and police brutality . Way back in 1965 Black Muslim revolutionary Malcolm X made a connection between racism and capitalism , between racism and imperialism . My favorite Malcom X quote : " Show me a capitalist and I will show you a blood sucker ". Above all the police are there to protect capitalist PRIVATE PROPERTY rights. And THE STATE is there as an organization of the country's ruling class not to protect everybody's safety and " freedom " .
