As a democratic socialist and an old fashioned Catholic I think the nation-states of the world desperately need a stronger, saner UNITED NATIONS . It is foolish to over-vilify any nation state in the 21st century. Are the Russian oligarchs on a lower moral level than the American plutocrats effectively in control of " OUR democracy " ? Just how does the American plutocracy plan to IMPROVE post-communist Russia ? Let " OUR democracy " show the way ? In 1917 the Russian Czar was replaced - in the midst of World War I- by Lenin and his Bolshevik Party. Another Lenin waits in the wings to replace " Czar " Putin in Russia ? Would not DEMOCRATIC socialism be an immense improvement for the Russian people ? I hope the next Russian Revolution will have more respect for the religious instincts of the human race. The biggest mistake of the 1917 revolution was to declare THE STATE officially atheist. That turned off still mostly Catholic Europe-perhaps even Germany ( which Lenin hoped would come to the rescue of isolated Russia ) . The collapse of the Soviet Union circa 1991 stupefied the capitalists of the whole world into thinking once again that their economic system - based on the exploitation and oppression of the working class - would and should be around forever. But TIME remains the great subversive . And they cannot kill the IDEA of a better worl
Does anybody in the mainstream news media care to notice that Russia today is now POST-COMMUNIST Russia ? The Russian Orthodox Church - close to the Catholic Church in doctrine and ritual - has made a comeback. To be sure , officially atheist Russia is no more. Is not the Russian Orthodox Church preferable to Ayn Rand inspired Zionism ? Ayn Rand's book " The Virtue of Selfishness " [ translate that to right wing capitalism ] inspired many neo-con Jewish intellectuals in the United States. They shaped American foreign policy today. You hear very little criticism of APARTHEID Israel- which is hardly a force for PEACE ON EARTH in the 21st century. Does not Pat Robertson profess a belligerent CHRISTIAN Zionism ? Yes, what would Jesus think ?
