The bizarre history of Trotskyism in the Year of Our Lord 2022 will probably interest only the most nerdy students of the left-wing political spectrum. But on the whole I think democratic socialist author George Orwell still has the most acute perspective on the TOTALITARIAN left. Even today these Marxist " vanguard" parties show no respect for the FREE SPEECH , FREE THOUGHT tradition of Western Civilization . The various sectarian groups can hardly have a civil debate with one another on any topic. They show no talent for communicating with the working class . Indeed few party members have any roots in the working class . They could benefit from pondering the Eric Hoffer's classic " The True Believer ".
And for some reason so many of these Marxist parties seem to be a " safe place " haven for neurotic Jews. Orwell did suggest that the generic SOCIALIST movement had a serious public relations problem : it attracted too many freaks ! David North's Socialist Equality Party reminds me so much of the Church of Scientology with its legion of " Clears ".
