[ Many years ago while I was still in residency, I was at a conference where another doctor was talking about a dangerous condition. He mentioned a particular complication and said that “patients who develop this will eventually die.” Then he stopped, stared out into space for a second or two, and said, “but then again, all patients eventually die.” He stopped again for a second then went on with his presentation. I sat and thought though. He was right. Our entire profession basically is just stalling for time.]
