ONLY democratic socialism can solve the homeless problem in the United States. The main obstacle for the homeless population is sacrosanct LANDLORD, PRIVATE PROPERTY RIGHT. The capitalist legal system grants them the right to beg but not the right to decent living conditions. Not a few homeless people will deliberately break a law just to be accommodated in the state prison system. Older Americans might remember reading a famous O'Henry story in public school : " The Cop and the Anthem ". The character " Soapy " gets arrested just when he resolves to straighten out his life.
