Homeless in downtown Providence

On my way to the Providence Public Library this morning I was struck by the same ( ? ) homeless guy sleeping on the steps of Providence City Hall - the very guy I noticed and filmed earlier in the week. Then, just moments later, I passed Dunkin Donuts and noticed a hat and two shoes covered by a piece of cardboard suggesting a BODY sleeping or PASSED AWAY under the cardboard. Was it a hoax ? I asked myself. I then tried talking to a " dummy " ( ? ) . " YOU OKAY ? " Then the face of the homeless black male became visible . He asked right away if I had a money to spare. I just had about two dollars worth of dimes and nickels in my pocket. Eight quarters had gone for RIPTA fare. I gave the man most of my change not aware that I still had three dimes left in my pocket. I moved on thinking : " Can't a BILLION DOLLARS from the FED in the Rhode Island state treasury help these homeless people into half decent housing- apart from squalid Harrington Hall in Cranston and depressing Crossroads in Providence ? " . Before I got much further up Washington Street another middle aged man with that repugnant " Bowery look " asked if I could help him . I felt those three dimes in my pocket and handed them to him. He seemed grateful for that. As a democratic socialist I think I know the cause of seemingly incurable homelessness in the USA : sacrosanct PRIVATE PROPERTY RIGHTS of capitalist landlords.
