The Course of Frankenstein

Ten year old Willie Engley was not afraid to cut through the

woods called the  Little Black Forest by locals of Pawtuxet Village.

That was how he preferred to go to St. Paul's Catholic School in

the morning. One morning he  had to stop to " take a leak ". He put

down his open book bag and went behind  a wild berry bush. He suddenly

heard footsteps behind  him - a  scary grunting noise.

" Frankenstein ! "  he thought.  The ogre of Fay Field was going

to have him for breakfast. He quickly grabbed his bag and started

running faster and faster , He was a good runner . He had won the bronze

medal in the Junior Gymnastics. Finally he arrived at the end of Milton

    Street.

In Sister Veronica ' that morning he could not find his  arithmetic

workbook. He had forgotten to do his square roots exercises anyway. He

reasoned that he had lost the book - he dare not tell his poor mother-

in the frantic escape from Frankenstein. He had also lost a few nice

    red, white, and blue pencils.

Sister threatened to punish him if he did not have his math exercise

book tomorrow morning. That meant he would have to go back to the Black

Forest when it was beginning to get dark - a late October afternoon.

But Willie was a brave soul.  The   Engley family were old Yankee

stock. He was so lucky. He found his math exercise book. But amazingly

Frankenstein had done his square root exercises !

His homework was corrected by Sister Veronica the next morning. She

put a gold star above the exercise.   Willie wondered  if Frankenstein

would return his red , white and blue pencil.
