Oh yes. And it broke me.
The truth that my only child does not love me.
He estranged himself from his family three years ago after we could no longer as parents give him money. I was told he does not want any contact ever. After the many weeks of questioning my mothering, my mistakes, the many good memories, etc; I could only come up with one conclusion.
No money from me equals no love from my son.
Money does not equal love.
My son does not love me.
This truth broke me. Now I have picked up the pieces and move on with the people who DO love me without conditions. And live gratefully in that.
For many centuries now ( with the rise of PRIVATE PROPERTY ) MONEY has corrupted FAMILY relations and even ordinary FRIENDSHIP . When the EGO is completely invested in SELF loving relationships with others becomes completely impossible. Capitalist society mass produces borderline psychopaths incapable of FEELING anybody's pain but their own. No wonder " bourgeois " marriage routinely fails. The famous SOCIALIST psychiatrist Erich Fromm explains why in more detail in his classic book " The Art of Loving ". Don't expect the New Atheism to help you find TRUE LOVE .
