My own experience is that public libraries in Rhode Island including state college and university libraries are being ridiculously conservative about opening up . There are few advocates for the public library system here in Rhode Island or in the USA . Bad news for the FREE SPEECH , FREE THOUGHT tradition of Western Civilization. I can picture the popular fantasy writer Ray Bradbury unquiet in his grave.
"Not like anything will change, the library is just a homeless camp, no reading occurs "
This was becoming true of the Providence Public Library . I am more optimistic with recent building improvements . The homeless have a right to HOMES not a right to disturb literate users who always appreciated their PUBLIC LIBRARY . In truth the state is dumping the mentally ill and homeless on public libraries.
