The American working class does need the Democrat Party for any " progressive " purpose under the sun

"The Democratic Party is just another big tent for the wealthy which is why they can't possibly represent workers without cognitive dissonance setting in. We need a worker's party for these very rational reasons."

Very true , but for more than a century the struggle for a" socialist " alternative has taken on the form of self-appointed , sectarian " vanguard " parties - often degenerating into mere personality cults ( patterned ironically after the Stalin cult in Soviet era Russia )- these " vanguard " parties pronouncing anathema on one another in defense of TRUE MARXISM , or TRUE MARXISM- LENINISM .

 Imagine two separate " socialist " parties - never getting more than an OFFICIAL ZERO percent of the vote- arguing in public over which represents TRUE socialism !

And also ironically these leftist or openly socialist organizations have no clue about a little something called MASS APPEAL . They imagine that militant atheism appeals to some universal working class.

 Nothing touches the religious instincts of the masses more than a secular holy vision of " eternal matter in motion " and " look what hydrogen atoms can do after 13 billion years of cosmic evolution ( Carl Sagan waxing euphoric ) .

As a lifelong, independent democratic socialist I have never in my life encountered working class people- innocent of THE PARTY - eager for the " dictatorship of the proletariat ", " Society of the Godless " lectures, and a bloody showdown with ALL class enemies.

WE do need a mass Worker Party - but not one in which narrow minded fanatics of " class struggle " or neurotic militant atheists set the parameters of " democratic centralism " .
